Last Sunday saw the first round of the West Zone junior bowls triples competition at the Bro Myrddin bowls centre, Carmarthen. In the first round, the Heatherton team of Cameron White, Luke Rees and skip Adam Hensman got off to a good start and with all three bowling well, they were in command throughout and finished worthy winners. In the second round they were up against a good rink skipped by Jessica Hooper, but they kept in the game right up to the last end and only lost by two shots. Throughout the day, the whole rink kept a good constant standard, helping and encouraged each other, and was well skipped by Adam. The Heatherton triples of  Gemma Amos, Joe Dennis and skip Joe Richards had a bye in the first round, before coming up against a very strong Swansea side skipped by Daniel Kerslake. Going into the last end, they were three down, but then Gemma bowled three fantastic woods right on the jack, which gave Joe Dennis and skip Joe Richards a fighting chance, which they both took to close the game out and win by one shot - a cracking performance from the whole team which puts them into the third round. The other triples got off to a bad start when their opponents should have been there for a 9.30 start, but did not turn up, which meant a four-and-a-half hour wait before they bowled. When they eventually began their match, Ysie White, Ryan Thomas and skip Liam Price  found themselves eight to three down, but then all three began to bowl to the standard they are capable of and took a commanding lead, which they never lost, to progress to the next round. This again was a good performance considering the delay. All three teams are to be congratulated on a good day's bowling.
