A planning application for log cabins, yurts, amended access and new visitor facilities at a South Pembrokeshire attraction has been withdrawn.

Members of Pembrokeshire County Council's planning and rights of way committee were due to consider an application by Mr. Charles Davies for 33 log cabins and 16 yurts (traditional Mongolian circular tents made of canvas and wood), amended access and new visitor attractions, comprising dog agility area and BMX stunt area, and environmental improvements at Heatherton World of Activities, St. Florence, on Tuesday.

The proposed site for the log cabins and yurts lay in the north-east part of Heatherton Country Park. The log cabins it was proposed would have been located around two lakes associated with the existing golf course, while the yurts would have be erected on planted woodland glades on undeveloped land further north. Some log cabins would be for sale and others to rent to facilitate a rolling programme of investment. Access would be separate from the rest of the site, opening up an existing gated access on the north side of the B4318.

The application also sought permission for a shower and toilet block, a dog agility training area and BMX stunt track, a bus stop, a family bike track, landscaping and additional footpaths.

However, the committee were being recommended to refuse the proposals.

Reasons were that the proposed development was contrary to policy 23 of the Joint Unitary Development Plan for Pembrokeshire which did not permit new static caravan site development, it was contrary to policy 24 of the JUDP which did not permit new tent sites in the area south and east of the A477/A4075 and the B4319 or unrelated settlements, it would be in the countryside and would have an adverse impact on landscape contrary to policy nine of the JUDP, and on the basis of evidence submitted in support of the scheme, there were no benefits, in terms of net benefit to the local tourism economy or any other material considerations, that were of sufficient weight to outweigh a departure from JUDP policies.
