HEATHERTON 120 (14 pts) EARLSWOOD 111 (8)
Playing their third match of the season against a very strong Earlswood side, on Saturday, Heatherton kept up their winning record with a narrow nine-shot victory overall. The match was played over two sessions, morning and afternoon, with the visitors from Swansea obviously liking the early start as their AM rinks established an 18-shot lead after just 10 ends. Wiping the sleep out of their eyes, however, Heatherton gradually pulled themselves together and over the next 11 ends reduced the deficit to four. This was an excellent effort and meant it was all to play for in the afternoon session. But once again the home side were slow out of the blocks, allowing Earlswood to pull further ahead as they opened up an 11-shot gap after five ends. After that, however, the visitors seemed to lose their grip on proceedings and by 10 ends their advantage across the board was down to just six. Indeed, in fairness to the Heatherton rinks, they would not give in, fighting for every shot, and at last their persistence paid off as they took the lead for the first time. With a three-shot advantage going into the final six ends, the home side now had their tails up and they continued to produce some excellent bowling to eventually run out winners by nine, collecting a useful 14 league points into the bargain. It was a wonderful match, enjoyed by all those taking part - as well as those watching from the sidelines - and Heatherton now look forward to playing local rivals, Pembrokeshire, at Milford, this weekend. Rink scores (Heatherton first, Earlswood skips only): T. Lamkin, J. Lewis, M. Evans, T. Howells 13; A. Watkins 22. G. Hughes, B. Jones, M. Jackson, J. Roberts 16; L. Davis 27. C. Bromham, A. ST. FLORENCE 2 pts. CWMTAWE 12
The two St. Florence rinks playing at home won overall by five shots, but the two away rinks lost by 20, leaving Cwmtawe 15-shot winners. It was a good effort by the St. Florence side, and it was noticeable that the two away rinks performed very well on what was a very tricky green. St. Florence home rinks and scores were: H. Evans, P. Gilder, I. Evans, M. Evans 30; J. Brown 7; A. Hensman, D. Rees, D. Silcox, T. Harris 14; D. Penhale 32. Away rinks: J. Richards, P. Satts, K. Davies, D. Keniford; D. Williams, J. Turley, G. Bethwaite, B. Deeley.
HEATHERTON VETERANS 87 (10 pts.) PEMBROKESHIRE VETERANS 61 (4)
Playing their first veterans match at home, Heatherton beat local rivals, Pembrokeshire, by 25 shots and collected 10 points as a result. Rink scores (Heatherton first, Pembrokeshire skips only): R. Brabon, T. Lamkin, D. K. Thomas, J. Moffat 14; L. Davie 16. R. Hurlow, M. Gouldingay, J. Dugmore, D. Robb 15; R. Price 20. P. Gray, H. Davies, M. Evans, T. Howells 25; P. Collins 15. D. Silcox, B. APOLOGIES
Finally, apologies must go to Miss Dana Rogers. In last week's report, it was stated that she had been chosen as a reserve for the West Zone in an Under 16 trials match against the East next weekend. In fact, she has been selected to play in the team - not as a reserve. Well done Dana, and congratulations again to Ysie White, Joe Richards and Liam Price, who will be playing alongside her.
