Heatherton 119 (7 pts.) Pembrokeshire 124 (15)

In a shock result in the West Division of the Welsh Championship, Heatherton, playing their first match of the new year, went down by five shots against local rivals Pembrokeshire. They only picked up seven out of the 22 points on offer, giving Pembrokeshire their first win of the season. The morning session started well for Heatherton, who held a 16-shot advantage after five ends. The visitors from over the Cleddau pulled back and were only four shots adrift at 10 ends and were playing much more steadily. This carried on and the session finished 64-apiece, with the two sides sharing the six points. The afternoon session had all to play for. After five ends, Pembrokeshire were one shot ahead. The next five ends saw the balance swing slightly back to Heatherton, who at 10 ends were just in front by two shots. With both sides fighting to take complete control, Heatherton just had the edge over the next five ends and were five shots up. But all credit to Pembrokeshire, who pulled those shots back over the last few ends, and indeed finished five shots to the good. It was a good game to watch. Well done to Pembrokeshire on winning their first match of the season, while let's hope Heatherton, who had several regular players missing, will finish their season on a high by winning their last league match on January 20 against Dinefwr. Rink scores (Heatherton first, Pembrokeshire skips only) were: R. Brabon, L. Price, J. Moffatt, S. Reese 22; P. Collins 17. R. O'Leary, J. Lewis, A. Whitehouse, C. Jones 20; R. Price 25. T. Lamkin, S. Dick, M. Evans, T. Howells 22; L. Davies 22. H. Davies, J. Richards, P. Blayney, C. Court 18; R. Jones 17. K. Davies, B. Jones, G. Thomas, J. Roberts 19; R. Thomas 30. C. Bromham, A. Jarvis, T. Harries, J. Baggott 18; E. Sturley 13.

Charity match

A charity fun day to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness on December 16 was well attended and a marvellous sum of £325 was collected through raffles and donations. Well done - a wonderful day's effort and thanks to everyone concerned.
