Pembrokeshire County Council chairman, Clr. Leslie Raymond, has presented the Chives Tearooms in Manorbier with a Heartbeat Award.

The award was presented to mark the healthy food, welcoming eating environment, good hygiene standards and non-smoking seating arrangements at the establishment.

The award, made by Pembrokeshire County Council, has the backing of Health Promotion Wales, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Wales Dietetic Advisory Committee.

Presenting it, Clr. Raymond said: "The award is a national symbol of recognition for caterers who are taking an active part in improving the health of the people of Wales."

The three minimum standards to qualify for the award are good standards of food hygiene and appropriate training for food handlers, at least 50 per cent of the seating area must be non-smoking and there should be a good range of healthier food choices, using methods which reduce fat, salt and sugar and increase fibre.
