On a fact finding tour and to meet West Wales farmers last week was Mr. Richard Haddock, chairman of the NFU Headquarters Livestock Committee.
On a visit to Windsor Farm, Lamphey, he met local milk, beef and lamb producers and fully explained the range of issues which his committee were currently attempting to come to grips with.
The ban on on-farm burial of fallen animals, coming into force on May 1, was one very striking matter and the powers that be had not yet decided how best to deal with it, he said.
The OTMS (over 30 months scheme), BSE, TB, late payments, animal identification laws and the CAP reform were all matters which he touched upon and in relation to which a variety of questions were prompted.
Mr. Steve Alderman, chairman of the National Farmers Union (Pembroke County branch), expressed the appreciation of all present to the Phillips family for allowing the visit to their farm and the warm hospitality afforded.
