Doctors in Narberth are taking their work into the community in a bid to raise awareness in reducing heart problems.

As part of the Welsh Assembly Government's Inequalities in Health project, Doctors Allen, Cadbury, Mackintosh and Harries, of Meddygfa Rhiannon, are holding a Healthy Heart Evening at the town's Rugby Club next week.

People will be able to have their blood pressure measured, weight checked and a risk assessment carried out at the event, which is taking place on Tuesday, March 4.

They will also be able to find out about exercise, how to get fit and what is available locally; healthy eating including tasting some healthy snacks; ways to stop smoking and test themselves against the smokerlyzer; safe drinking levels, as well as learning simple exercises to control stress.

Also as part of project, Narberth Health Centre has started a healthy heart clinic and is screening the high risk group of men aged 30 to 65 years.

The aim is to identify those at greatest risk of a heart attack and reduce that risk by offering them advice on stopping smoking, increasing exercise and treating raised blood pressure.

The Healthy Heart Evening is part of the project work and sees the doctors taking their work out of the health centre and into the community.

The Healthy Heart Evening and clinic is one of 67 being supported by the Welsh Assembly Government's Inequalities in Health Fund which is designed to stimulate and support new local action to address inequalities in health and the factors that contribute to it, including inequalities in access to health services.

The evening begins at 7 pm and all are welcome.
