Hywel Dda University Health Board would like to reassure patients of Tenby Surgery that the practice will remain open following the resignation of Dr. Kelly from August 1 this year.

Dr. Kelly’s resignation and return of the practice’s GMS contract means that the provision of services at the Surgery will become the direct responsibility of the Health Board for the time being, until the best way forward for the Practice becomes clearer.

The practice remains open as normal, and GP cover will continue to be provided by the salaried GP and regular locums. The GPs are supported by a team of experienced nurse practitioners, paramedic practitioners, and the GP telephone consulting service.

Patients registered with Tenby Surgery should remain registered at the practice and should continue to access services as normal.

Elaine Lorton, assistant director of Primary Care at the Health Board, said: “We accept that this news may concern the community, however the Health Board wishes to reassure patients of Tenby Surgery that they can continue to access GP services locally as they have done.

“The continued sustainability of general medical services for the patients registered at Tenby Surgery is of paramount importance for the Health Board and we see this as an opportunity to strengthen services locally. Planning processes are underway to determine the available options for the practice, and the Health Board is working closely with the practice to provide support.

“The Health Board is keen to listen to patients and stakeholders to define what long-term model is needed for the community."

The Health Board and Tenby Surgery appreciate the continuing support for the practice given by the patients and the community at a particularly challenging time for the staff.  The Health Board will keep patients informed and briefed on developments and will be working with the Community Health Council to seek the views of patients on the future of services in the Tenby area. A public engagement event will be held in Tenby in the forthcoming weeks and patients will receive a letter with an update and further details.

Patients are reminded that services are also available at both the nearby nurse-led walk-in centre and through local community pharmacies who offer a range of expert services.
