Welsh Hearts, Calonnau Cymru, the charity aimed at managing and preventing heart disease in Wales, will be holding a heart screening session for 12 to 35-year-olds at Sir Thomas Picton School on Saturday, October 1, from 9 am until 4.30 pm.
This heart screening session is funded entirely by Welsh Hearts and costs £5,000 per day. A £10 payment is being asked for to ensure that there are missed appointments.
You must be between 12 and 35-years-old. This test is painless, non-invasive and takes only five to 10 minutes to perform.
Hundreds die each week across the UK from an undiagnosed heart condition. A simple ECG (electrocardiogram) will identify most cardiac abnormalities so that conditions can be managed.
Welsh Hearts are pleased to be funding such a vital and life-saving initiative. It is their mission to help protect and promote the heart health of young people here in Wales. Many people still associate heart disease and heart attacks with older people, however this is sadly not the case. But with screening a massive difference can be made and lives will be saved.
Meinir Lewis, Mid and West Wales fundraising manager with Welsh Hearts, said: “We are so pleased to be offering heart screening sessions in Haverfordwest. Hundreds of people in the UK die each week from an undiagnosed heart condition - that’s hundreds too many. Each session costs £5,000 to hold - that’s £50 per person to have their heart screened. We are especially thankful to the cardiologists who give their time for free. We cannot hold these heart screening sessions without generous donations of money and time to help support our work.”
Appointments at these sessions fill up fast, so to book your place now, head to www.welshhearts.org/heartscreeningwales or contact the Welsh Hearts head office on 029 2064 7735.
