Sam and Gavin Faulkner have challenged themselves to take on multiple running events to raise funds for the Cardiac Care Unit at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.

Husbands Sam and Gavin from Newport have already taken part in the Porthcawl 10k and now plan to run the Great North Run Half Marathon, Cardiff Half Marathon and Silverstone F1 Circuit 10k.

The pair are raising the funds in memory of Sam’s Dad who sadly passed away in 2023 following two heart attacks.

Gavin said: “Sam’s dad was looked after so well by all the staff on the Cardiac Care Unit at Withybush Hospital. We have committed to doing something to raise money for the unit every year if we can, as a way of giving back for the care and compassion showed to Sam's Dad but also to his family following his passing.

“The Silverstone Circuit 10k is the day after what would have been Sam's dad's birthday. Sam was born and spent his early years growing up in Silverstone, his dad used to love the Formula 1, so it seemed like a fitting tribute.”

Katie Hancock, Fundraising Officer, said: “I would like to say a huge good luck to Sam and Gavin for taking on some fantastic races this year to raise funds for the Cardiac Care Unit.

“Thank you for supporting Hywel Dda Health Charities once again and raising funds for the unit that is so special to your family. We really appreciate your fantastic support. Enjoy the races.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
