Things happen to our body when we eat peanut butter - This unassuming sandwich staple has more power than you’d ever believe. It’s been a staple in North American homes for 131 years and it’s easy to understand why. Peanut butter is both nutritious and delicious.
It pairs well with everything from fruits to chocolate. High in healthy monounsaturated fats and nutrient-rich, it’s a favourite food for weight loss. What else does peanut butter do to our body?
· We lower our death risk. According to a 2015 Vanderbilt University study, eating nuts every day is linked to a lower total death risk due to their density of health-promoting and protective nutrients.
· We’ll feel fuller. Peanut butter’s monounsaturated fat and protein is highly satiating. Peanut butter on toast, or on an apple for a snack can prevent us from overeating. But consume in moderation. A good serving size is two tablespoons.
· We’ll reduce diabetes risk. Eating peanut butter at least five days a week can lower the risk of developing diabetes by almost 30 per cent.
· We’ll get an energy boost. The protein, fibre and healthy fat in peanut butter can give us that kick we need to start the day, or as a pick-me-up midday. It also helps to keep blood sugar stable, which prevents those hunger crushes later on.
· We’ll shed weight. According to a study in the International Journal of Obesity, peanuts can increase our metabolic furnace. In that study, subjects’ metabolic rate jumped by 11 per cent when they ate 500 calories of peanuts daily for 19 weeks.
