PEANUT BUTTER IS BACK!: At first glance, peanut butter’s place in the pantheon of healthy foods seems somewhat underserved, being plentiful in both fat and calorific content. However, once you look at the full package, you can see it’s true worth for anyone who lives an active lifestyle (and isn’t allergic to peanuts).
Peanut butter is fatty, but the ratio between saturated and unsaturated fat leans heavily towards the latter, which can help maintain healthy cholesterol levels and lower the risk of heart disease. It is protein packed with a couple of tablespoons bringing in around 8g of protein, which helps us recover from our exercise exploits. Every two tablespoons also brings in 2g of fibre, a useful boost towards the RDA of 30g that most of us fall short of. Fibre is also linked with a lower risk of heart disease, type two diabetes and bowel cancer.
There is a wide range of nut butters to try, from peanut to almond to cashew to hazelnut.
