Thanks to Pembrokeshire charitable donations, Withybush General Hospital has purchased six portable Carescape telemetry T4 transmitter cardiac monitoring units for the Coronary Care Unit.
These units will enable remote cardiac monitoring of patients. This extends to patients outside of the CCU, enabling suitably skilled staff to view the cardiac trace on a central monitor in CCU. They will then contact staff within the patient’s area should they observe any readings of concerns.
Where there are no telemetry units or fixed cardiac monitors available, patients may need to be held in the Emergency Department for monitoring and this does not provide the best patient experience and may result in delays in availability of space.
The monitoring units were purchased at a cost of £7,729.92 and were bought thanks to donations to the Hywel Dda Health Charities Cardiology Equipment Income Fund.
Fiona Davies, Senior Sister, said: “The purchase of the six new telemetry units allows remote cardiac monitoring of patients by means of a link to a central unit in CCU. This enables mobility for patients who require cardiac monitoring within the hospital. Without these units, patients would need to be transferred to the CCU to be attached to a cardiac monitor, often only for a short period of time.
“These units are now being used throughout the hospital which allows placement of patients outside of CCU whilst maintaining the required level of observation. We are extremely grateful for all charitable donations made to the CCU which help us to continue to improve services for the benefit of the people of Pembrokeshire.”
Every donation assists Hywel Dda Health Charities to support and enhance local healthcare in many different ways. To find out more, please contact Tara Nickerson, fundraising officer, on 01437 772478 or email [email protected]
