The Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust Board was delighted to learn at a recent board meeting that the trust has won a Gold Award following its first assessment for "Health at Work - the Corporate Standard".

This award has been developed by the Welsh Assembly Government to promote workplace health strategies and support health promotion in the workplace.

During December, an assessment panel visited many areas of the Trust to look at initiatives designed to improve and support health at work.

During a busy schedule, the assessment team visited psychotherapy services and catering services at Withybush Hospital and South Pembrokeshire Hospital, the Trust's Occupational Health Department and the staff crêche. They observed training sessions in Withybush, Carmarthen and South Pembrokeshire.

Within a very positive report, they made special mention of the high standards of catering within the Trust. They also praised the innovative work being done by the Occupational Health Psychotherapy Service, which they considered should be used as an example of best practice in reducing sickness absence and rehabilitating staff back to work in the NHS.

The Healthy Workplace Group, which comprises representatives from all areas of the Trust will continue its work in promoting all aspects of workplace health and address the areas for development identified during the assessment.

The award will be presented to Trust Chairman, Mrs. Lynnette George at a ceremony next month.
