Members of Tenby town council are to ask the Welsh Government's minister for health and social services if he would reconsider a request to visit the town to discuss the future of the Minor Injuries Unit at Tenby Cottage Hospital.
Councillors had recently asked for a letter to be sent to the minister Mr. Mark Drakeford to see if he would meet with the town council to discuss the Hywel Dda Health Board's proposals to close the town's MIU.
Correspondence from Mr. Drakeford was received by councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night which said: "I have since received the Community Health Council's revised referral and, although I have been asked to take final decisions on certain elements which the CHC cannot support, these elements do not include the proposals concerning the MIU at Tenby," with the health minister adding that he does not intend to reopen any matters which have been agreed between the CHC and the Health Board.
South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network secretary Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas told her fellow councillors that the group had received the same reply from Mr. Drakeford, suggesting that concerns are directed towards the CHC.
Clr. Lawrence Blackhall said that it would be a good idea to write back to the health minister to remind him that the CHC's decisions were subject to local GPs agreeing to the proposals, and as no prospect of an agreement was in place, then in light of this, the town council would still welcome a discussion with Mr. Drakeford himself.
