Hywel Dda University Health Board is continuing to work with Tenby doctors to address their current workforce challenges and ensure local people and tourists have information on local healthcare services Additional locum cover, as well as permanent GP staff options, are being actively pursued and further updates will be provided when available. The Triage + Treat community pharmacy service commenced last week in Tenby and on July 17 in Saundersfoot. There has been some uptake of the service with positive feedback given in regards to the service provided and the concept. Information on services available in the Tenby and Saundersfoot area has been made available through Tenby Cottage Hospital, Pembrokeshire National Park Office Tenby and Saundersfoot Tourist Information Centres and Pembrokeshire Tourism. Assistant director of primary care, Elaine Lorton, from the University Health Board, said: "We are working really hard to ensure people understand where they can access the best healthcare for their particular needs. For example, something we have worked on very recently is the development of a poster to explain how patients can obtain medication if they had forgotten to bring it with them on holiday. We have made this available to GPs, the out-of-hours service, community pharmacies, and the Emergency Department at Withybush Hospital, as well as through tourism contacts." If you are on holiday without your medication, did you know?.. You may be able to buy the medication you need, or something similar, over the counter without a prescription If there is time before you actually need your medication, contact your own surgery at home, to ask them to issue you a prescription which they can post to you or a local nominated pharmacy If not, the pharmacy may be able to help by selling you an emergency supply of essential medication, until you can get a prescription for it, or will advise you what to do If you do need to see a local doctor, they will only be able to treat you for your immediate needs, as they do not have access to your medical records If they do give you a prescription, it will be for as short a period as possible, until you are able to get a prescription from your own GP To find the nearest community pharmacy, or to ask for further help, contact: NHS Direct Wales Tel.0845 46 47 http://www.nhsdirect.wales.nhs.uk">www.nhsdirect.wales.nhs.uk For more information on what NHS service is right for you go to http://www.hywelddahb.wales.nhs.uk/choosewell">www.hywelddahb.wales.nhs.uk/choosewell
