Thousands of people enjoyed one of Wales’ most popular festivals - Pembrokeshire Fish Week - at the 250-plus events organised all over the county.

Organiser Joe Welch, food development officer for Pembrokeshire County Council, said the festival is continuing to grow, even though it’s 17 years since it was first launched.

“We had a really strong, vibrant opening weekend with two great new events at Lawrenny and Scolton Manor which were very popular with the public,” she said. “The closing weekend is also wonderful with two firmly established family-friendly events at Goodwick and Saundersfoot.

She continued: “And in between, there are many fantastic events and activities in various venues encompassing the whole county.”

Events included angling tuition, foraging, family beach fun days, seashore safaris, filleting workshops at secondary schools, cookery demos, craft and art workshops, guided walks, and much more - including lots of fresh seafood dished up on local menus throughout the week.

Joe thanked all the businesses and sponsors for their continued support, and said there were a number of new events which had generated some excellent feedback.

“It’s great that that festival is always changing, with new events being organised as well as the more established events growing in popularity,” she said.

“Among this year’s new activities was a series of art workshops organised by the VC Gallery and sponsored by Valero, for a variety of groups including elderly people, the travelling community, and veterans, which culminated in a display of their work in four different locations and the opportunity for visitors to also take part in art and craft sessions.

“There was also a fun new evening of old-fashioned storytelling of ‘legends from the deep around the world’ at Haroldston House at Solva, with ‘a ration of grog and canapés in the French style - ship’s biscuits optional’!”

Other popular new activities included a pilgrims path walk to Nevern and a bug-hunt with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, nautical sewing workshops at My Little Treasures at Milford Haven Marina - plus an outdoor street food barbecue at Foam, complete with open-air DJ.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week is co-ordinated by Pembrokeshire County Council, part funded by Welsh Government and supported by various organisations.
