The food festival in Haverfordwest has already become very popular even if it’s only in its second year. Many stallholders are coming back and many new ones are joining in on Saturday, May 7, from 10 am - 6 pm, when the festival site in the grounds of the County Hall and the Picton Centre open again with a full programme of events and food demonstrations.
This year, the day will include an abundance of superb food and drinks stalls from the local and nearby area. Around 40 stalls will be undercover and there will also be plenty of street food stalls in the outside area.
Well-known chefs will be cooking in front of a live audience. Welsh chef Anthony Evans from S4C and Castell Howell will be starting off the demonstrations of fresh seasonal food, followed by the team from Blas y Tir, who will also be entertaining and demonstrating their culinary skills. And finally, Andy Holcroft from Britian’s first insect restaurant, which is situated in our very own county.
2016 is introducing a cookery school for children aged four - 11 under the guidance of Ellen Picton from Health Aspire. She will be helping them cook various dishes and they will be given a chef’s hat to take home, as well as samples of their cooking. There is a charge of £1 for these workshops.
Living in a county by the sea has inspired the organisers to also put focus on the sea world in a new, separate marquee where Cardigan Bay Fish will be cooking fish dishes after joyful local fishermen will be demonstrating how to gut a freshly caught fish and how to dress a crab. Silent World will be displaying their large fish tanks and talk about the fascinating colourful sea life. They will also provide colouring sheets for children.
There will be live music throughout the day with a mix of 12 local singers and bands, all in convenient proximity to a licensed bar! All along, the clever magician, David Hitchcott, will be entertaining the crowds.
There is free onsite parking for the disabled. A free Park & Ride bus has been organised this year traveling around the town every 20 minutes for shoppers of the town, alongside the festival goers. Use of the bus doesn’t require entering the festival. The bus will run from 9.30 am - 6 pm and pick up and drop off from the PCC Archives building at Prendergast to the bus stop on Picton Place (opposite Iceland). You can park your vehicle in the archives car park and hop on the bus all for free!
The food festival is a not-for-profit community event run entirely by volunteers.
Generous sponsorship has been sourced from a number of local businesses and organisations, and Haverfoodfest promises to be a wonderful day out for the whole family: an opportunity to spend an enjoyable and relaxing day tasting the best that local produce has to offer in a wonderful atmosphere of fun, food and fabulous entertainment. The Man v Food competition will go ahead again with fierce competition as to who is fastest eating the massive burger! This should be an awesome spectacle.
