All are welcome to call in to the informal Marine and Coastal Surgery at the Pebbles Inn, Freshwater East, next Thursday, June 20, any time from 2-7 pm. Refreshments will be provided.
The surgery is being run by the Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum and Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation and is a chance to pass on personal concerns on coastal issues or simply find out more about the coast, the marine environment, or these partnerships and what they do.
The Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum is a partnership of individuals and organisations from the public, private and voluntary sector who are working together to achieve a joint long term aim of promoting a sustainable and strategic approach to the planning, management, use and development of Pembrokeshire's coastal zone.
The Forum aims to raise awareness of coastal issues, providing an arena for informed discussions and debate amongst all with an interest in the coast.
From this, the Forum will take a lead in developing an integrated strategy for the management of the Pembrokeshire coast.
Work is currently underway on a 'Who's Who' directory of organisations within Pembrokeshire which will provide communities with an informative guide to all managers, planners and users of the coast, and who to go to for information and advice.
In addition, views and concerns regarding the Pembrokeshire coast are being sought to feed into an Issues Report due out later in the year.
Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation is a European Marine Site that extends along the South Pembrokeshire coast from the west to Manorbier. The designation aims to safeguard the marine wildlife of the area for the future. A management scheme for the area is being developed to help achieve this aim.
Local and user input is being sought to help identify threats to the marine wildlife and minimise any impacts. Such threats are currently seen to be wide ranging and cover general marine pollution through to unsustainable fishing activity and disturbance from recreation.
The Marine and Coastal Surgery is an opportunity to have your opinions heard and be truly involved in the future management of Pembrokeshire's saltier side.
If you cannot make these dates, you can contact the Forum on (01646) 696174.
