On Saturday, September 24, and Saturday, October 1, within the town, there will be a series of street theatre performances in the town, being arranged on behalf of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery. These pieces are stepping away from the traditional history and are designed to illustrate the darker and quirkier sides of the town’s story. The museum is planning to use the community in the creation and telling of many of these stories.

One aspect being explored is the history of the magistrates court that was housed above the town market. The museum is now looking for anyone who has interesting stories to tell relating to the court in order to bring the history to life.

Collections manager Mark Lewis said: “What we want to do is using living history to create a sense of the past and the street performances will bear witness to the many fascinating tales there are to tell. We are looking in particular for details relating to a story I have only heard tell apocryphally, and that is about the harbour men chasing a gang of bikers out of the town in the 1960s or 1970s. If anyone was involved in this happening, or have heard the story told, we would love to hear from you. Just contact me at the museum on (01834) 842809 or via email, [email protected].”
