Sir,

Wozzatime when we knew where we were in Tenby. Outside Roy's chippy was a large 'You are here map' and you could also see your destination. Now I am not sure anymore - the map is gone and I am wondering if we have lost our way.

Not only is it difficult to see where we are, more to the point it would be helpful to know where Pembs. County Council are leading us. Their past record on street cleaning, dogs mess toilet provision, play places for children, coupled with their present draconian anti-parking measures, do not inspire overwhelming confidence, and with their current information, or lack of it, their pedestrianisation scheme for Tenby seems to signal hardship for many.

They appear then to have the dubious distinction of making difficult situations considerably worse. They have taken roads that were an amenity and turned them into a resource.

Like poor Mr. Dick in David Copperfield they are trying to fly their kite of pedestrianisation, but in its present form it is too heavy and unwieldy. They should give much more thought and consideration to the elderly, the infirm and the young and the wellbeing of the community. At the moment this is not being done, so do we have to conclude that we have more than our fair share of Mr. Dicks involved in his Rag, Tag and Bobtail scheme as it stands.

Many of us would like to see some form of pedestrianisation, but at the moment it is a shambles. Can I suggest they give the matter the due care and attention the community deserves and act as a caring council and not as is perceived, a seemingly arrogant and uncaring bunch. Because if it fails, not only would it be a wasted opportunity, but more importantly all the upheaval and turmoil will have been for nothing.

Ken Fryer, St. Teresas, Tenby.
