Sir,

May we take this opportunity to commend Clr. Jonathan S. Preston for his letter, 'A time for clear leadership', in last week's Tenby Observer.

Obviously Clr. Preston is a man of compassion and clearly recognises that we should be treating our most vulnerable people in society with dignity and respect.

Nonetheless, we were amazed by Clr. Preston's account of the meeting that had recently been held with Pembrokeshire County Council planning officers and local councillors. We have difficulty in understanding as to why councillors failed to hold the county council to account - why were the planning officers not asked to provide copies of the 'option appraisal' for alternative civic amenity sites that were considered by the council?

That's assuming of course that the county council did in fact consider alternative sites! Or could it be the case that the county council are just hell-bent on the site adjacent to Brooklands Nursing Home, come what may.

So far, county council officers and cabinet council members have paid scant regard to the residents and their relatives of Brooklands by completely disregarding their views and showing a total lack of respect to these very vulnerable people whose home is in fact Brooklands Nursing Home, a home where these very vulnerable people are treated with the utmost care, delivered with compassion, dignity and respect.

Please, please councillors show the same compassion, dignity, and treat the residents and their relatives in the same way that you would wish to be treated.
