A Pembrokeshire family say the best Christmas present they could have would be the safe return of their pet dog.
Four-year-old Border Collie, Spot, the much-loved pet of the Layton family, of Milford Haven, disappeared from their home on October 9.
Spot, who is black and white in colour, is believed to be in the Tenby area and in the latest development is thought to have been sighted around the Clicketts area of the town on Wednesday.
"A number of motorists stopped and tried to catch the dog," owner, local solicitor, Mr. Mark Layton, told the Observer yesterday (Thursday).
With other sightings in the Jubilee/Paddock area and The Norton, the people who saw the dog this week have examined photographs and are convinced that the markings on the dog they saw bore a striking similarity to Spot.
A farmer has also reported seeing a dog like Spot over the previous two weeks in the same locality.
"But how the dog got to Tenby we do not know," said Mr. Layton.
"Whether he was stolen or escaped after being dumped, we just do not know, but whilst we have been out looking for Spot we have been speaking to people and found that a lot of dogs have been disappearing in mysterious circumstances," he added.
Desperate to find Spot, the family have put up a substantial reward of £1,000.
