Moved by recent disasters in Haiti, Italy and other parts of the world, Pennar Community Church decided to use this year’s Harvest Service to raise awareness of the charity Shelterbox.

During the service conducted by the minister, Rev. Elizabeth Squires, who led prayers for victims of disasters, the congregation found it quite ‘humbling’ to see a demonstration Shelterbox kindly loaned by the Rotary Club of Pembroke.

Shelterbox, which began as a Rotary project in West Cornwall, delivers the essentials people need to begin rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Aid arrives in the form of Shelterboxes and Shelterkits. The sturdy green Shelterboxes contain family sized tents to withstand the elements, while the Shelterkits contain the essentials to transform a shelter into a home and the tools to start repairing and rebuilding their homes straightaway.

As a result of the service, the church raised £600 for Shelterbox.
