Sunday (May 12) saw Harten400 riders take on the ‘little brother’ to the main ride next month.

On June 21, 18 cyclists and support crew will set off from Harrogate in Yorkshire and cycle the 272 miles back to Tenby in 36 hours in aid for The British Heart Foundation charity.

This mammoth challenge is being organised by Dai Morgan from Tenby and Kevin Hare from Harrogate (originally from Kilgetty), who came up with the idea after Dai’s grandmother and also Kevin’s mother, suddenly passed away after suffering heart attacks.

“As we left Tenby the sun was shining we knew it was going to be a good day, quietly surprised by the 30 odd riders who showed up, we then picked up another 15 riders 5 miles in, and more and more joined in!” said Dai.

“By the time we reached Cardigan, there was over 60 riders and while we were there we were overwhelmed by the hospitality of Lynne and Adam at Cardigan Bay holiday park, as the food and drinks were just what we all needed and plenty of it! On top of this they didn’t charge us a penny, thank you both so much!!

“We then drew the raffle - 1st prize was a £50 Tredz voucher won by Chris Blanco and then Jon Mills of Cyclefit Tenby very kindly threw in a free bike service and 10 cyclefit sessions, won By Andrew Underwood, so congratulations both.

“What amazed us the most was how many clubs from around Pembrokeshire came to support us all in the love of cycling and we thank you all - Tenby CC, Tenby Aces, Haverfordwest Hornets, Narberth Dynamos, Dynamo Divas, Pembrokeshire Dragons, 5 Frogs, Taff Valley Cycling Club and even West Wales Fitness Coaching coming down from Aberporth, not to mention the single riders.

“So between you all very generous and kind people we have raised £710 all for The British Heart Foundation - wow just unbelievable!! Not in our wildest dreams when we set out in the morning we thought we would hit that amount.

“However all of this wouldn’t have been done without the idea and organisation of Alison and Andrew Pearce, so thank you both so much.

“Once again thank you all, be proud of what you have helped to achieve and the lives you’re helping to save,” added Dai who said that the team will now turn their attention to the big ride on June 21.
