18 cyclists and support crew will set off from Harrogate in Yorkshire in June and cycle the 280 miles back to Tenby in 36 hours in aid for The British Heart Foundation charity.
To achieve this they will have to cycle non stop for the whole time, the only stops will be for short water and food refills.
This mammoth challenge which takes place on June 21 is being organised by Dai Morgan from Tenby and Kevin Hare from Harrogate (originally from Kilgetty).
The idea came last year when Dai’s grandmother and also Kevin’s mother, Susan Hare suddenly died from a massive heart attack.
It was over 30 years ago when Kevin’s father, Eddie Hare first suffered heart problems. He thankfully survived two heart attacks, but sadly passed away some ten years ago.
Four years ago Kevin himself had a massive heart attack, and it was touch and go for a while but with the great work from Leeds general Hospital and the research the BHF carry out he’s on the road to a full recovery.
Since this three or four members of the family have had heart scares and are now living life to the full, one of which is Tenby’s mayor elect Clr. Tony Brown.
Without a doubt the research the BHF carry out certainly saved these lives, so Dai and Kevin thought it time to give something back, and raise as much money to help and save more lives.
With Dai a keen cyclist he came up with the idea of Harten400, which started with his two friends, Jamie and Dan.
Before long there was 16 from Tenby area and two from Harrogate on board to attempt the 400km ride. There will also be three support vehicles with support crew which are all family or close friends.
To help pay for the expenses a cycling shirt has been designed and the response was huge with over 20 sponsors.
Last week some Harten riders and friends from Tenby CC travelled up to Usk for a training ride and took on the mighty Tumble mountain.
They travelled up with one of the shirt sponsors Narberth Elite Travel. This month the guys have a 200 miler ride planned to Cardiff and back.
