County Hall's council chamber played host to some rather younger visitors this week. Saundersfoot Primary School held a school council meeting in the Haverfordwest hall. It is believed to be the first time Pembrokeshire County Council's chamber has hosted such a meeting. The meeting followed a request from 10-year-old Harry Whitehurst, Saundersfoot school council chairperson. Harry, along with 14 other pupils, visited County Hall on Monday, where they were met by Clr. Islwyn Howells, cabinet member for children and young people. The youngsters learnt about the role of the county council, the services it provides and how the council is run. Clr. Howells said it was important children were encouraged to become active citizens. "By familiarising them with the democratic process at a young age we hope that when they are older they will have the skills and confidence to take an active role in decision-making," he said.
