Neyland II 0

Saundersfoot Sports II 1

Saundersfoot ground out a hard fought win at bottom-of-the-table Neyland in an eventful game that nearly didn't get completed.

After a frustrating opening 20 minutes where Sports found it hard to find their rhythm, the game was brought to an unfortunate standstill when one of the home team's players sustained a serious injury following a 50-50 challenge.

With a lengthy delay in proceedings while the player was treated on the pitch for a broken leg, the game was put in doubt due to the poor light, which wasn't helped by the atrocious weather conditions that were beginning to unfold.

However, after consulting both parties, the referee made the decision to carry on the match and Saundersfoot took the lead shortly before half-time when a decisive run inside the Neyland penalty area from Aaron Goldsmith paid off when the youngster fired the ball across the face of the goal and Jamie Morgan was on hand to slide in at the back post and give his side the lead.

Morgan then turned villain just after half-time when he was given his marching orders after receiving two harsh bookings. Down to 10 men, Sports faced an uphill task to hang onto their lead, with the rain now also teaming down.

Grant Hardy and Paul Evans battled well up front for the cause, while a long range effort from midfielder Sam Coleman produced a fine save from the Neyland 'keeper.

Saundersfoot's back line of Mike Cornick, Nicky Allen, Paul Thomas and Peter Rattenbury worked tiredlessly to clear up in defence, while Scott Davison in goal was alert to any through balls that were played his way.

In the absence of captain Iân Morris in the holding role, Richard Rossiter marshalled the midfield area well to ensure that Neyland couldn't make their extra man advantage count and Sports took away a valuable three points.
