THE Rotary Club of Tenby have been sponsoring Martha Kemu since she was born. She was 17 years old yesterday (Thursday).
Martha lives in one of the SOS Children's Villages in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, which is on the west coast of Africa.
There are currently 134 children in the village, most of whom are orphaned or abandoned. The older children help to look after and teach the younger ones.
SOS Children is a UK based charity. It looks after more than 78,000 children in 500 unique Children's Villages in 124 countries. The organisation is funded by child sponsors and donors. Many of the children have been orphaned due to the likes of AIDS, wars and natural disasters.
Individual persons who wish to find out more about SOS Children and possibly provide sponsorship or a donation can visit http://www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk">www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk
In the meantime, the Rotary Club of Tenby will continue to support this very worthy charity, although sponsorship of Martha herself is likely to cease next year when she is 18-years-old.
