A new National Park Education Room at Lydstep Beach Village has already been voted a big hit with visitors.
It has been developed as part of the highly successful partnership between the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Bourne Leisure Limited, which operates three major holiday sites in south Pembrokeshire.
Opened recently by National Park Authority chairman, Clr. Steven Watkins, Lydstep's Education Room provides an all-weather base for ranger activities such as the weekly 'Junior Ranger Club' and 'wildlife workshop' sessions run by National Park ranger Kiri Howell for families staying at the holiday village.
In the room, visitors can find out more about the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park by accessing information or by talking directly to the ranger.
This is the eighth consecutive season that the ranger post has been funded by Bourne Leisure. Kiri - who lives at Penally - has taken on the post for the second year running. She has set up a range of environmental activities and events for holiday home owners and holidaymakers at Bourne Leisure's three Pembrokeshire sites - Kiln Park, Penally Court and Lydstep Beach Village.
Said Kiri: "We have given the room a very 'hands on' feel. It has an impressive marine tank with creatures collected from 'rockpool rambles' at Lydstep Beach itself. The tank is basically an indoor rockpool habitat, providing an insight into the wonderfully diverse marine life off the Pembrokeshire coast. It was set up with the expert help of staff from Tenby's Silent World Aquarium who have been working closely with me throughout the project.
"The room has already proved extremely popular," she added.
Ranger Kiri runs an action-packed programme of activities and events, including beach days, guided walks and accompanied trips to special places within the National Park.
Kiri is on site at Lydstep Beach on Wednesdays and Saturdays and at Kiln Park on Thursdays and Sundays throughout the summer. Details of all the Bourne Leisure ranger activities can be found at the sites themselves via reception staff.
