The September meeting of East Williamston Community and Hall Association heard that a 'New Deal' team of young people experiencing work ethics, under the direction of Mr. Roy Broxham, had undertaken the planting of daffodil, snowdrop and bluebell bulbs on the common at East Williamston. The group had also worked hard strimming and tidying the area and the association committee expressed appreciation for all that had been achieved.
The Protheroe Cup Memorial Whist Drive, held in the Community Hall at the end of August, had been very well supported and raised £75.83 for hall funds. Mrs. Brenda Davies was thanked for organising the successful event and other volunteers for their help. It is hoped to arrange another whist drive at the same venue, probably early in the New Year.
A sub committee had arranged a special Hallowe'en Party in the Community Hall, which will take place tomorrow Saturday, beginning at 7 pm, and should provide fun for old and young alike. There will be suitably spooky decorations, some unusual and exciting games, a buffet supper and lively music. Costumes in keeping with the theme are not obligatory, but it is rumoured that there will definitely be witches and black cats in attendance and it is hoped that some other original characters might turn up!
Tickets for this novel event are £3 for adults and £2 for children, obtainable from Pentlepoir and Broadmoor Post Office or from committee members. It should also be possible to pay at the door, although pre-booking is advised, and a warm welcome is extended to all.
The Community and Hall Association is also planning another Old Fashioned Village Christmas in December, following the success of last year's friendly seasonal occasion. The next Newsletter is now being prepared and snippets of information, especially from the Pentlepoir and Broadmoor areas, are being sought by the editor, who will welcome calls on (01834) 812125. Volunteers to help with magazine distribution in late November/early December would be very much appreciated.
