A Saundersfoot fundraiser has expressed her thanks to the community after raising a whopping £1,655.95 towards helping her cousin.
Kelly Wharton-Edwards teamed up with her dad Neil Wharton, to take on the Cardiff Half Marathon challenge at the start of the month, to raise funds towards treatments, rehabilitation and future care for her cousin Rory Rogers, who was left seriously injured in 2013.
It was Kelly’s first ever half marathon and she completed the challenge in two hours and 24 minutes, after several months of getting up bright and early to go training with her father.
“Words can’t explain how grateful we are for the kindness, generosity and support we have had whilst raising money for my amazing cousin Rory,” said Kelly.
“So many people have stopped us out and about to say well done and we’d like to say a massive thank you to all who sponsored us, put money in the buckets, donated online, and have just been phenomenal throughout!
“Being able to give this cheque with my dad to Rory is one of the most humbling moments of my life, and the early mornings and horrendous hills seem like nothing now!” she added.
Kelly would like to thank the 1 Formula Fitness gym in Kilgetty, the Old Chemist Inn, Katie Marsh and Bella Bella beauty salon in Saundersfoot, and also the village’s Tesco Express, for displaying the fundraising buckets, whilst Neilo’s Services would like to thank all his customers who too have donated towards the cause. Kelly would also like to thank the Observer for carrying the story in the lead-up to the marathon.
