TODAY (Friday) looks like being a hair-raising day at Sageston's Plough Inn, all in the name of Macmillan Cancer Support (writes Jacob Williams).

A sponsored head shave by one of the regulars, who just wishes to be known as Nigel, will be the star attraction during landlords Sue and John Wright's effort to raise funds at the charity's 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning.'

The duo, who have run the pub for five months, eagerly accepted Nigel's ratcheted offer that if he could raise £300 his head would be shaved, for £500 he would allow his chest to be waxed, and for the magic £1,000 he would arrive on the day 'dressed in a ladies' frock!'

Nigel, who maintains a long hair-style, explained to the Observer that this isn't the first time he has offered to shed his locks for charity.

"On the spur of the moment, I decided to do a sponsored head shave at the Carew Inn's charity day last year, and my hair raised £150 alone."

With over £600 raised so far, two of Nigel's targets have already been surpassed, prompting some humour in the pub over his choice of dress for the occasion!

The combined coffee morning and rent-a-table will take place between 10 am and 2 pm, with Nigel's sponsored hair cut commencing at 1.30 pm.

Entry is £1, which includes coffee, biscuits and raffle, and the rent-a-table is £5.
