A young gymnast with links to the Tenby area is making a name for herself in the United States. Lauren Feely, 11, is the daughter of Liam and Jane Feely and the granddaughter of Sue and Freddy Broomhead, of Tenby. She moved to the US with her family in 1999 and currently lives north of Chicago in Illinois. Lauren (pictured) has been a competitive gymnast since the age of eight and is currently a Level 8 gymnast at Ultimate Gymnastics in Gurnee, where she trains 16 hours a week! This year has been Lauren's best gymnastic season yet - she took first place all-around at five out of eight regular season competitions and finished in the top 10 at the Illinois State Finals. She gained a place on the Illinois State Team to compete against four other States in the Level 8 Regional Finals in Indianapolis. She competed on bars, beam, floor and vault and finished seventh all-around, out of 50 girls in her age group. Next season Lauren hopes to be a Level 9 gymnast and is currently working on the skills she needs to compete at this high level. She hopes to repeat this year's success and even qualify for the Level 9 National Finals. Ultimately, she dreams of Olympic gold - representing Great Britain - of course!
