THERE were big birthday celebrations at Tenby's Belmont Court Nursing home on Monday, as resident Gwen Rothwell enjoyed her 102nd birthday with family and friends.

Gwen, who hails from Manorbier, enjoyed a chorus of 'Happy Birthday' as she was presented with a birthday cake and flowers by staff at the home and even joined in with a rendition of the song 'Congratulations' herself, assisted by her niece Wendy and great-niece Polly.

Born on November 19, 1910, to William and Elizabeth Hughes, at May Cottage, in Manorbier, she still likes to keep in touch with news from the village and enjoys frequent visits from faithful friends and family.

Gwen moved to Belmont Court in 2005, where she has a room with a view towards Caldey Island.
