Pembrokeshire County Council's director of transportation and environment has written to Tenby councillors to explain issues of concern over flooding problems at Gumfreston.

At a previous meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. David Stock had backed the concerns of County Clr. Michael Williams over flooding at Gumfreston and asked why no prompt action had been taken by the county council to alleviate the problems.

At Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, correspondence from Mr. Ian Westley was brought before members on the matter.

He explained that there was a named scheme in the capital programme 'Gumfreston to Tenby' covering the concerns, with the objectives of the scheme - to address the issue of flooding causing the road to be closed; to link the footway from Heywood Lane to the pathway adjacent to the old pump house; and junction improvement of Clicketts Lane with Heywood Lane.

"The study is in the process of being done, and subject to the outcome of the final proposals, and obtaining necessary funding, it is hoped to progress to construction over the next couple of years," wrote Mr. Westley.

"With regard to immediate action, this section of road is located on the flood plain. There does not appear to be a deficiency with highway or surface water drainage systems, therefore, until a major capital scheme can be justified and built, there is limited scope for short term amelioration linked with this sort of flooding problem," he added.
