Tenby’s attempts to swoop down to combat litter on the streets of the resort by introducing gull-proof rubbish bags, has been once again hailed a success.
A trial of seagull-proof rubbish bags to reduce street rubbish by deterring gulls and animals from attacking kerbside waste, was introduced as a joint initiative between Pembrokeshire County Council and Tenby Town Council, before the summer of 2014.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, informed members that a news item on ITV Wales recently, saw the Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, give an interview on how successful the gull-proof bags had proved.
“Subsequently we’ve had a lot of requests in the town council offices from more residents wanting the bags, and people are prepared to pay for them,” said Mr. Davies.
“This is a good example of the town council working in partnership with the county council to come up with a solution to such a problem,” remarked Clr. Blackhall.
“This has highlighted that the bags need to be made more widely available as there is a demand for them, so perhaps they can be purchased, almost like a bag for life scheme,” he added.
