On Thursday, June 19, more than 200 members of the South West Wales Federation of Townswomen's Guilds assembled at Pembroke Castle for their bi-annual Garden Party. Even the weather was kind.
Members of the Pembroke Borough Guild in Victorian dress welcomed everyone, adding lovely colouring to a glittering collection of beautiful hats and superb outfits.
All assembled in a marquee; all tables being decorated with flowers in the Guild colours of red, green and white.
Among the guests present were the Mayor of Pembroke, Clr. Dilwyn Davies; the Mayor of Pembroke Dock, Clr. Mrs. P. E. M. Folland and consort, Mr. D. Folland; national vice-chairman, Mrs. Pam Pollock; Federation president, Mrs. Dorothy Thomas and Federation vice-president, Mrs. Betty Scourfield.
These guests were all warmly welcomed by newly-appointed Federation chairman, Mrs. Joy Griffiths.
The raffle was drawn and prizes donated by all members of the Federation committee were duly distributed.
An excellent tea was served by all. After tea, the chairman thanked all who had helped to make the afternoon such a success and she presented gifts to the guests.
This was not just a Garden Party, it was a great chance for socialising. Most spent time greeting old friends and making new ones in an atmosphere of conviviality.
To conclude the afternoon, entertainment was provided by the young members of Celtic Cleddagh.
The Irish style dancing was enjoyed by all and congratulations must go to the young dancers and their teachers for such an excellent conclusion to a superb afternoon.
Special thanks must go to Mrs. Joy Griffiths who was responsible for organising the afternoon and did a wonderful job.
