Part of the Guide Promise is to 'help other people' and the Girlguiding members of Lower Landsker District have been doing that recently.
A collection was taken during the District Carol Service at St. Mary's in Tenby in December and as a result of this £150 was presented to the Sandy Bears Bereavement and Loss Service.
Karen and Anita came along to speak to the Senior Section and some of the Brownies, Guides and Leaders to explain a little more about the charity and the work they do with young people locally.
The 2nd St. Issell's Brownies were also delighted to present a cheque for £81 to the Welsh Air Ambulance after selling cakes and organising crafts at the Colby Woodland Gardens Christmas Fair.
They had some interesting questions for Mike Ashbridge, who coped with them admirably. It was quite a surprise to learn that every time the ambulance takes off, it costs £1,000, but it does carry seriously injured people to hospital in 15 minutes.
Guiding units in the UK currently have a Change The World Challenge during the run up to the centenary year beginning in September. All units are asked to adopt a charity to either raise money or awareness of the work it does. Some of the units in our district have chosen Water Aid, Crisis, and WWF.
However, it is really good that they can also find the time to support other charities nearer to home.
Exciting times are ahead here in Pembrokeshire, with many events planned to celebrate 100 years since Lord Baden Powell began his work with Girlguides.
