The Tenby and Pembrokeshire Branch of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association have recently held two very successful coffee mornings. The first, on November 1 at the home of guide dog owner Veronica Prescott Owen and her husband Colin at 4 the Croft, Manorbier, was well supported and raised £233. Special thanks go to Val Davie, Valerie Goodwin and Joan Hopwood, who provided help on the day, and to all the kind folk who attended and those who could not be present, but gave generous donations. Veronica and Colin, and guide dog Claire, were delighted with the support given to their first fund- raising event. The second coffee morning was held the following Thursday at Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club. Again there was an excellent attendance and almost £400 was raised. The branch wish to especially thank Powells Holidays for the advertising space, Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club for the use of the premises, and everyone who came along or gave donations and raffle prizes making it such a successful morning. Guide dogs Wilma and Angie were present together with their owners John Lloyd from Milford Haven and Eva Rich, the branch secretary, from Saundersfoot, and the president, former guide dog owner, Iris Roblin. The raffle winners were Rene Baggott, Roger Stanford, Colin Hughes, Alan Davies, Iris Roblin, Jessie Rowlands, Gwyneth Thomas, Ralph Rich, Anne Morgan, Trevina Vincent, Valerie Crew, Connie King and Ivy Harries. These are the last fund-raising events for 2007, and the chair person and members wish to express sincere gratitude to everyone for their support during a very successful fund-raising year, with special thanks to the many friends and helpers who provide much appreciated assistance with collections, flag days and other activities throughout the year. There are now 12 guide dogs in Pembrokeshire, all providing their owners with mobility and independence in safety, as well as being wonderful companions. Please remember to save your used postage stamps and any redundant mobile phones which help to raise much-needed funds.
