A hundred years of faith and fellowship in St. Teilo's was celebrated by a joyous burst of music in St. John's Church, Pembroke Dock. Communal hymns were led by Rev. Andrew Davies at the organ and the Griffon Choir, conducted for the first time by their new musical director, Dr. John Harrison, were in fine voice. Delighted to be accompanied at the piano by Juliet Rossiter, choristers combined sacred music with secular in a programme varied enough to please everyone.
As an added bonus there were two superb soloists. Pembroke's Sarah Benbow's clear and lyrical soprano ranged effortlessly through Dvorak's 'Like to a linden tree', and 'Music for a while' by Purcel, to the Gershwin brothers' 'Someone to watch over me' and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'I don't know how to love him', all with Juliet's sympathetic accompaniments.
Then there was Rev. Davies at the organ once more, but this time accompanying Christine King, St. Teilo's own musician, whose pure notes as she played the second movement of Mozart's clarinet concerto in A major were magical, deserving the ovation Christine had from the audience.
After the concert, St. Teilo's secret formula for success became very clear. They are great cooks!
