Local greengrocer Hugh Scale and his cousin Michael Scale have just returned from a trip to London courtesy of the BBC where he was one of the greengrocers who took part in the 'Test the Nation' programme on Saturday.

Anne Robinson and Phillip Schofield tested celebrities, viewers and a studio audience made up of six groups of 40 people. The groups included ballroom dancers, radio presenters and surgeons as well as greengrocers.

"It was billed to include a light-hearted English language test," said Hugh, "and as greengrocers are famous for misplacing apostrophes, I suppose we were an obvious group to invite."

The greengrocers had a great evening and enjoyed the opportunity to meet others in the same business.

On a more serious note, they were pleased to have a bit of publicity.

"Greengrocers seem to be making a bit of a comeback in the retail world," added Hugh, "and it was nice to have this recognised."

Hugh insists his head has not been turned by the spotlights. He's back in Four Seasons Tenby as usual, and is said to be coping well with the autograph hunters.
