Planning permission was granted for Narberth's new primary school this week.
At Tuesday's meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council's planning and rights of way committee, members agreed to the facility which will be sited on land adjacent to the town's police station in Jesse Road.
The application, for outline permission, which also includes a parking area to the front of the site and playing fields to the rear, was approved subject to the submission of reserved matters and highway conditions.
The decision was welcomed in the town by Mayor, Clr. Henry Langen.
"It is good news for the town and a step forward for the project," he told the Observer yesterday Thursday.
"Now we know for sure that the new school is going to be built on that site."
