The Friends of Jubilee Park were out again on Saturday working in the East Williamston Jubilee Park and Nature Trail.

The park is an area of 18 acres and it is largely maintained by volunteers who give up their time to clear scrub, cut back the ever invasive brambles, maintain the paths - creating a space both for recreation and a nature reserve.

It is with some pride therefore that the volunteers heard that the park in East Williamston had been awarded a Green Flag again this year, the international mark of a quality park and green space.

The East Williamston Jubilee Park and Nature Trail is unique in the area and the East Williamston Community Association is extremely proud to have earned the right to fly the Green Flag in recognition of the lovely mix of spaces for play, for walking, for nature watching and even quiet contemplation.

New signage will be put up soon to help everyone find this local gem with the access paths leading from behind the village bus stop.

To celebrate their success and to bring the park to a wider community, the volunteers are hosting a traditional village fete on Saturday, September 3, 2-5 pm.

There’ll be refreshments, cake and plant stalls, pin the tail on the donkey, sack racing, egg and spoon racing and of course welly wangling - fun for all the family.
