Tenby Cubs recently held their annual camp at Penlan Outdoor Activity Centre. Here is the camp log produced by one of the participants, Sam Butler, aged nine.
DAY ONE
When I got to camp, a few people were already there. We had to wait for 30 minutes until everybody came. When we were all there, we started talking about who was going in each tent. In the first tent were, me, Sam Baxter, David, Jack Waring, Ben. In the tent next door were Billy, Scott, Ashley, Jack Walker, Kurk. Next to Scott's tent were Harrison, Thomas, Kieran and Alexander. Then we checked if anybody had nuts in their sweets; if they did, they would be taken off them, because Sam Baxter is allergic to nuts. Then we put out our bed. After that, we went to milk a cow; on the way we saw some rabbits and some goats. There was a cheeky one that was getting sold; then we saw some dogs in a cage, three of them. Then we went to see the stinky pigs, four little ones and four big ones. They really do stink when you get close to them. Then we walked back to camp and played some football. Then we went for dinner - we had hot dogs and hot chocolate. Then we started this story; at bed time we were telling jokes. We went to sleep very late.
Day two
We woke up very early. Then we brushed our teeth and washed our faces. Then we tidied our tent for inspection. Then me, Kurk and Scott went to fetch the breakfast. It was really heavy. We had to take the milk out because it was so heavy. Then we had to wait. Breakfast was nice Then we went mountain boarding. It was great. I had four goes. We mastered going straight down the hill and Gary put out some cones. Gary, Dad, Monica, Mo and Sue did good, but my Mum was wonky. Then we went for lunch. It was nice. We then went canoeing. My brother capsized, it was pretty funny. Sam Baxter capsized, that was pretty funny as well. Then we had to walk up 300 steps, it was tiring. Then we all had a little fight over a four-leaf clover and had five minutes rest. Then we went in the shower. Scott went in the cold shower. It was really cold. Sam had the hot shower. When I was walking up the hill back to the tent, I remembered the horses. Then I remembered the mountain boarding. It was a bit like a skateboard, but bigger, with bigger wheels. It also has straps to put your feet in and you also have knee pads and a helmet. We then went to the obstacle course. We timed ourselves. Fastest around the course in 23 seconds was Jack Walker. Then we had dinner again; it was delicious. Then we were making some puppets. After, I went outside to play rounders. Then we collected sticks for the fire and started telling jokes and singing songs; then we listened to our entertainer Harrison. He did Irish dancing and told jokes. Then we went to bed, told more jokes and went to sleep.
Day three
We emptied our beds out ready for inspection, then I brushed my teeth. Then it was breakfast. It was delicious. After some waiting, we went orienteering. We found it easy at the start, but then we fell behind and were late coming back to camp. Then we had lunch, which was delicious again. Next we did horse riding. I was with Kurk. We were on Misty the moody horse. Harrison was with Thomas on Tommy. Sam was with Scott on Ginger and Ashley was with Alex. It was amazing. We trotted, we rode through big cones and our partner had rope to guide us. Then we went on an obstacle course. We had to carry a plank and a bell; if we fell off any of the obstacles, it was a two second penalty. If the bell rang it was a one second penalty. The opposition team took 37 minutes to go all the way around and it took my team 28 minutes. Now it was time to go back to camp and wait for our parents to pick us up. We had a great time. Thanks.
