Only two days remain of the action-packed programme of this year's Tenby Arts Festival. During the past week, audiences have enjoyed a great variety of events embracing music, drama, film, comedy and talks around the town. The Festival will finish with a flourish of six exciting shows today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday). Some tickets are still available, but you will have to be quick!
Today (Friday) is packed with a range of intriguing possibilities. At 1 pm, the inimitable Laurie Dale and Pauline Allen will entertain in the Pam Pam restaurant, while at 2 pm, another Ealing comedy, The Ladykillers, will be screened at the Royal Playhouse.
This is the original and seeing it will make you wonder why a recent remake was ever attempted. Directed by Alexander Mackendrick, who commented: "To be frivolous about frivolous matters, that's merely boring: to be frivolous about something deadly serious, that's true comedy." Described by one critic as: "One of the greatest blends of the mirthful and the macabre," the film boasts an outstanding cast Alex Guiness, Peter Sellars, Cecil Parker, Herbert Lom, Frankie Howard and most memorably, Katie Johnson.
Today's main event is the Gala Evening at the De Valence Pavilion, where at 8 pm, a star-studded concert will provided a night to remember. Young talented musicians, all with Welsh pedigree and a touch of international success, will be seeking to enhance their burgeoning reputations. Can Rakhi Singh, Elin Manahan Thomas, Anthony Stuart Lloyd and Jonathon Paulson, emulate the ascendant celebrity of Katherine Jenkins who appeared at the Festival two years ago as a relative unknown?
On the final day of the Festival tomorrow (Saturday) in an exciting new initiative, the Festival will climax with a presentation of Abba Magic, the renowned tribute band, in a spectacular concert at Folly Farm Theatre.
To round off the evening and the Festival, you are invited to join the Memphis Seven for some late night traditional jazz in the Royal Gatehouse Hotel, Tenby, starting at 10 pm. It will be a wonderful way to spend an evening and help bring the Festival to a rousing climax. "Now, that's entertainment!" as a visitor said recently about the whole eight-day programme.
