The 65th anniversary of the Normandy Landings (D-Day) is almost upon us and substantial grants are available from the Big Lottery Fund for veterans (one person), a veteran and spouse or carer (two persons) or a veteran plus spouse and carer (three persons) to revisit Northern and Western Europe, which includes Normandy.
Grants are also available to visit (1) the Mediterranean and North Africa; (2) Egypt Libya and the Middle East; and (3) the Far East and the Rest of the World.
Visits must take place before December 31, 2010.
A group of more than 10 people can claim an additional grant to cover organising costs.
The name of the programme is 'Heroes Return 2' and the helpline number is 0845 00 00 121.
This information has just reached me, and is not widely known. Ledger Battlefield Holidays have dates for Normandy from March to October. The 2009 brochure says they pick up in Haverfordwest.
