Red Roses Community Centre has received an RDP Sir Gâr Rural Community Inclusion grant to expand their popular lunch club and other activities at the venue.
Tuesday Lunch club caters for the elderly in the community, providing a hot two-course meal and teas and coffees for approximately 50 people and offers a chance to socialise for those attending.
The centre prepares a further 20 takeaway meals that are delivered by volunteers to the homes of those unable to attend.
Residents of Whitland, St. Clears, Laugharne and Pendine all use the lunch club and Eglwyscummin Community Association obtained the grant to develop and enhance the current kitchen facilities at the Centre to keep up with demand.
Steve Millis, chair of the Community Association said: "The funding means we will be able to prepare more meals and the kitchen staff will have better facilities and a better working environment. We will also have alternative means of food preparation in the event of a power cut or emergencies - ensuring that we will always be in a position to provide this important service for those who need it."
Since its opening in 2008, the hall has gone from strength to strength and become a key focal point of the community. Activities currently taking place include; cinema club, zumba, quilting classes, charity raffles, bingo, curry nights, beach day picnics, annual hog roast, lunch club, art classes and computer club.
