Oakwood Theme Park’s Sport Relief Mile event raised more than £1,800 for the charity.

The event, which took place earlier in the year, saw local people running one, three or six miles in aid of Sport Relief.

The exact total raised by the Oakwood event was £1,830.10 and organisers say they are delighted with people’s generosity.

“The Sport Relief Mile has become something of a pre-season tradition here at Oakwood and we never fail to be impressed by the efforts and kindness of those taking part,” said park director, Phil Verbinnen.

“This year’s race was one of the biggest and best ever and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part and also volunteered their time to help out with organising and staging the event,” he added.

This year’s Sport Relief was a record breaking year with the campaign raising a total of £72.5 million. The money raised will help disadvantaged people across the UK and the world’s poorest communities.

Jess Kirke, events manager at Comic Relief, said:, “We want to say a huge thank you to all of our local mile organisers.

“They work tirelessly to organise successful events up and down the country and we are truly grateful for all their efforts and hard work - Sport Relief wouldn’t be the event it is without them.”

Since 1985, Comic Relief has raised over £1 billion for good causes.
