Well known international rugby personalities such as Jonathan Davies, Sonny Parker, Shane Williams, Andy Powell, Ken Owens, Scott Johnston, Nikki Walker and Jonathan Thomas will turn out for the Mike Phillips Invitation team under the captaincy of Phillips in a Grand Charity Cricket match at Whitland Cricket Club this Sunday, July 18.
Michael Phillips, a playing member of Whitland CC, has accepted an invitation to raise a team to play the Hywel Williams Select XI to raise money for the Cardiac ITU and HDU Endowment Fund at Morriston Hospital.
Quite a number of well-known local sportsmen, including members of Whitland cricket and rugby clubs, have received major heart surgery at Morriston and are involved in raising money for the fund.
Michael Phillips played for Whitland Seconds on Saturday in a Division Two match at Cresselly, but ended up in the rather unaccustomed position of being on the losing side.
County Club chairman Trefor Evans, a former Whitland opening bowler who introduced Michael Phillips to rugby and cricket, will be one of the umpires, along with Ogwyn Phillips, of Ystalyfera Cricket Club
Wickets will be pitched at 2 pm and match programmes priced £1 can be purchased from Whitland cricketers.
